Well, hello 2016. Whew am I glad you are here, but you have been a whirlwind so far! Easter is here? Whaaaa??
I’ll be the first to admit to still writing 2015 on papers… and maybe even 2012 if I’m being embarrassingly honest. Feels like I blinked and 2014 was gone, and we had a baby, and life went flying by in a daze of exhaustion and bliss and more exhaustion 🙂 Quick 2016 recap thus far: I kicked this year off with a solo flight back to the UK after some family time and we survived! I discovered why people say enjoy your child NOT crawling and learned that workouts are not confined to those 30-minute videos or runs through the neighborhood.
We toured an amazing medieval castle… but then spent 12 hours stuck in traffic for a supposed 2 hour drive… and learned to laugh (and find an Ikea in walking distance) because sweet time is sweet time regardless of where you are. We visited gorgeous York and the coast of Northern Ireland, learning that our world is so big and beautiful but also complicated as people still live with (literal) walls between neighbors. I took another cake decorating class because my husband is just the best. We’ve spent time making memories with friends and precious moments as just mom, dad, and lil M.
We’ve watched our baby turn 1, smash 3 cakes, and star in her first big bash. We’ve learned to laugh through falls and take the dog out of the room while Madelyn eats. Now we are working on life, just enjoying our baby who’s looking less like a baby by the day. She stands and we clap, then she smiles with joy and claps, and our hearts melt. What a beautiful cycle.
My most important and hard-earned lesson in this last year has been to see the God-given beauty in each moment. As my dear friend (I wish) Ann so beautifully says- “I want to see beauty. In the ugly, in the sink, in the suffering, in the daily, in all the days before I die, the moments before I sleep.” (Ann Voskamp, One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are ⇠btdubs this is incredible! Put it next on your list.)
Today, for example, we saw sunshine and 54 degrees here in England (see above picture!). Color me shocked but it actually feels like spring! To celebrate, I had the opportunity to rake our “garden” (British for ‘back yard’) filled with moss. So glam. But as the Pilot amused, ‘Wow! You’re actually using your Hunter boots for something other than fashion!’ haha
Now for something actual useful to the rest of you, I’m sharing my new favorite Shakeology recipe to ring in the Spring-ness with a little minty fresh good-ness. Anybody else a little sad (and relieved?) that Girl Scout cookies have come and gone? Whether you’re fighting off sweets cravings or just looking for a quick and simple meal ready in 2 minutes or less… try it! It’s pretty delish.
