Through years of learning about what it means to make ‘healthy’ a lifestyle and not a diet, I have found so many great blogs and resources along the way. Here’s a few of my favorite resources, including a section of info about a whole food, plant-based diet (& why I like it!). And then there’s some of my favorite foodie and lifestyle blogs. Happy reading!
A plant-based diet is based on foods that come from plants, including vegetables, whole grains, legumes and fruits, with few animal products.
⇢ Getting started: Think Meatless Mondays. Start by introducing one new, plant-based recipe each week, and in a few months you’ll have great ideas for eating for two full weeks. Identify one or two types of breakfast you can eat on most days. Replace all of the simple carbohydrates, breads and pastas with 100 percent whole grain product. Add beans to your salads and eat more vegetables.
⇢ To me, plant-based means the majority of your diet comes from plants. So, I still eat meat once or twice a week. When I buy meat, I prefer to buy organic & free-range. These can definitely cost a bit more than the factory-farmed ‘meats’ handed out by big-brand meat-producers (See: Food, Inc.), but when you eat them less frequently, the cost impact isn’t nearly so huge!
